# Alt text for images

Alt text is a short image description. Search engines and screen readers use it.

Completed alt text helps images appear in image search. It also makes your website more accessible for visually impaired people.

### Alt text guidelines

Describe the photograph’s main subject. Include people, actions, locations, or important details.

Aim for 7 to 15 words. Do not reuse the same description for different photographs.

Use keywords only when relevant. Instead of “photographer Moscow affordable wedding photoshoot,” write “Wedding photoshoot in New York: bride and groom walking together.”

### Examples

* Wedding photography: “Bride and groom near the Big Ban in London.”
* Family photography: “Parents and children throwing leaves in an autumn park.”
* Portrait: “Studio portrait of a woman with freckles and green eyes.”
* Product photography: “Gold diamond ring on a black background.”

### Adding alt text

1. Open the required page in the dashboard.
2. Open the **Alt text** tab.
3. Add a description in the **Alt text for search engines** field.
4. Save your changes.
